Chapter I

Why I
became
a practitioner.

01
"The body is not a problem to be solved. It is a system that already knows what it needs — our task is to listen carefully enough to hear it."

I came to Ayurveda not as a tradition to inherit but as a system to understand. My training in BAMS took me deep into the classical texts — the Charaka Samhita, the Ashtanga Hridayam — not as historical artefacts but as living clinical frameworks that continue to be more precise than most of what I encountered later.

Nine years of practice changed how I see the body. Not as a collection of symptoms to suppress, but as an intelligence that communicates. Every patient who came to me with chronic skin or hair conditions had been told their problem was topical. I kept finding it wasn't.

Sreshta came from a simple frustration: I couldn't find products made the way I knew they should be made. The market offered two things — cheap mass products with synthetic shortcuts, or expensive wellness brands with Ayurvedic aesthetics but no practitioner behind them. Neither was honest.

So I began formulating for my own patients. The response was immediate. Three years later, Sreshta exists because those patients kept asking where they could send their friends.

Training & practice

A practitioner's
education is never finished.

2010–2015
Bachelor of Ayurvedic Medicine & Surgery (B.A.M.S)

Five-year clinical degree spanning the classical texts, pharmacology (Dravyaguna), and hospital-based clinical rotations. Graduated with a focus on skin and integumentary conditions.

2015–2017
Clinical internship & Panchakarma training

Two-year supervised practice including intensive Panchakarma (detoxification protocol) training. Developed clinical intuition for constitutional typing and the relationship between gut health and skin.

2017–2021
Independent clinical practice, Bengaluru

Built a practice focused on chronic skin and hair conditions, metabolic imbalances, and lifestyle-related disorders. Began formulating product protocols for patients as adjuncts to consultation.

2021–2022
Advanced studies in classical formulation (Bhaishajya Kalpana)

Intensive study of traditional Ayurvedic pharmaceutical processes — tailam preparation, kashayam extraction, churna formulation — with senior practitioners maintaining classical methods.

Founder, Sreshta Naturals

Continuing clinical practice alongside product formulation. Every Sreshta batch is prepared personally. Consultation and product development remain a single, inseparable practice.

What I believe

Three principles
that shape every formulation.

01
First principle

The practitioner must stay in the formulation

Formulation is not a manufacturing process — it is a clinical decision. Every ingredient, every ratio, every process has a reason rooted in classical pharmacology and nine years of watching what actually works on actual bodies. When that practitioner's attention leaves, the product becomes something else.

"I formulate every batch personally. Not because it's efficient — because I believe a practitioner's attention changes what a product can do."

02
Second principle

The body communicates. Products should listen.

Ayurveda's most important contribution is not its ingredient library — it is its understanding of individuality. The same herb behaves differently in a Vata body versus a Pitta body. Formulations that ignore this are treating a category, not a person. Sreshta products are designed to work with the body's own signals.

"A ritual that doesn't respond to your body is just a habit with expensive ingredients."

03
Third principle

Classical methods exist for reasons modern shortcuts erase

The traditional process of preparing a tailam — slow oil infusion over controlled heat across multiple days — produces a molecular outcome that cold-pressing cannot replicate. These aren't romantic gestures toward tradition. They are pharmacological decisions. Every classical method Sreshta preserves has a documented reason for existing.

"Speed and scale are the enemies of most things worth making."

How Sreshta is made

The formulation
process.

Every Sreshta product begins and ends with Swetha. There is no outsourced manufacturing, no contract lab, no batch she hasn't touched personally. This is what that looks like in practice.

01
Sourcing
Ingredient selection
from verified sources

Every raw ingredient is sourced from suppliers Swetha has personally vetted — many of them small-scale growers and traditional harvesters. Potency, seasonal timing, and processing method are evaluated before any ingredient enters a Sreshta formulation. No substitutions are made for cost.

02
Classical preparation
Kashayam extraction
and base preparation

Herbal decoctions (kashayam) are prepared using traditional ratios — typically 1 part herb to 16 parts water, reduced by controlled heat to one-quarter volume. This is a multi-hour process performed by Swetha, not delegated. The resulting extract carries a potency that commercial shortcuts cannot replicate.

03
Tailam process
Slow oil infusion
over multiple days

For oil-based formulations, the kashayam is combined with the base oil and relevant herbal powders and heated at precise, low temperatures across multiple sessions. The classical text specifies the signs of completion — smell, texture, foam behaviour — and Swetha monitors these by hand, not instrument.

04
Quality & batch
Testing, cooling,
and small-batch filling

Every batch is tested for scent profile, viscosity, and colour consistency before filling. Batches are small by design — this is not a constraint but a commitment. When demand occasionally exceeds a batch, Swetha will make a new batch rather than hold product that has aged past her standard.

05
Delivery
Ritual card and
usage guidance

Each order includes a hand-written ritual guide specific to the product — application method, timing, seasonal adjustments, and what to expect during the body's transition period. This is part of the formulation in Swetha's view: a product without guidance is incomplete clinical work.
